    Default Bentleys for TwoLane, please!

Would appreciate some Bentleys, please, for our golden retriever, TwoLane. He's had a swelling on his right front leg for the last 6 months; when we first had it checked, they tried aspirating but couldn't get anything. X-rays showed nothing but fluid; the swelling is soft and squishy, not attached to the bone, so I was relieved it was not cancer.

He has started limping on that leg this past week. Not sure if it is due to the swelling, arthritis, problems with his shoulder...so I am going to try and get him in to the vet Monday evening after work. The cattle dogs have started picking on him more as they all age, and TwoLane is the most frail of the 3.

Please shine those Bentleys it is something we can manage. TwoLane is my hubby's heart-dog, they are joined at the heart and the hip. TwoLane will be 11 years old in January, and other than this issue and his allergies, he's in pretty good shape for an older golden.

Good news, TwoLane does NOT have cancer. BIG WHEW!!! He does, however, have a painful shoulder, and from the x-ray it looks like a possible bone chip (pic 4). X-ray being sent to radiologist today. For now he will be on Tramadol, and if it ends up just being an inflamed tendon and not a bone chip, that's all he will need. If it is arthritis or a bone chip, they can try laser therapy on that. Hopefully it will not come to needing surgery. Thanks for the Bentleys! So happy it is not worse!

The swelling on his leg appears to be a fatty lipoma (pic 2), although the vet says he has never seen one that big and in that spot. It is not painful, and the vet says a surgery to remove it in that area would be "very messy", so best we leave it alone unless it starts causing him discomfort.

Yay! So glad there is no cancer! At least now you know what you are dealing with and hopefully the Tramadol helps. Hope the lipoma doesn't grow any more and doesn't bother TwoLane.

Years ago I fell off my horse on a trail ride and chipped my hip bone. Had to ride about 4 miles back to camp and when I got off my horse I couldn't put any weight on my leg. The doctor told me that the chip would float around until it attached itself somewhere. Some days it didn't bother me at all and other days it hurt like the devil. Took about 3 months for it to settle. I took pain pills for a day or two and kept off my leg for a day and went back to work since I had a sit down job. Only used crutches for a few days because they were a pain to use.

Vet just called back; results showed it was not a bone chip, but he does have some painful arthritis and tendinitis. So we are going with Tramadol and the laser treatments (set of 6 starting Monday, $200 for that. Way better than surgery!).

The radiologist also said fatty lipoma on the leg, and no treatment needed unless it bothers him.

    Thanks again, all!

What clarity on the films! I didn't know what to look for, but it was fascinating. Good news for the old guy!

This is the lipoma, or fatty swelling on his leg. It's fairly soft, and doesn't bother him right now. He has a couple of smaller ones on his side and chest that are also just fatty deposits, thank goodness. Guess older dogs are prone to that, but the one on his leg is rather unusual because of the size and placement.

So glad to read that TwoLane's diagnosis isn't cancer! Bentleys and belly rubs to him, though, and hope he feels better soon (and that your wallet does, too!)!
