Frozen Kong
Stand a Kong (or any other hard rubber toy with a hole in the end) in a cup with the big hole up. Put a small palm full of kibble into the bottom of the Kong. Add a heaping spoon of Fat Free Plain Yogurt or pumpkin or peanut butter that has been mixed with water to make it a little easier to spoon. Alternate layers of kibble and yogurt/pumpkin/peanut butter. Freeze for a few hours and enjoy some quiet time!

32 oz. vanilla yogurt
1 mashed banana or one large baby food fruit
2 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp honey

Melt peanut butter in microwave. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Pour into ice cube trays or cupcake cups. Freeze.

6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
4 eggs, well beaten
1/8 cup bacon fat
1 cup water
1/2 cup non-fat dry milk powder
2 cup graham flour
2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup cornmeal

Mix ingredients with a strong spoon; drop heaping tablespoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet. Bake in a 350 oven for 15 minutes. Turn off oven and leave cookies on baking sheet in the oven overnight to dry out.

Yield: about 4 dozen dog cookies

Scout's Cake is from the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook. Since it is not my "original" recipe, not sure if I can put it in our cookbook. Here is the recipe:

Scout?s Birthday Cake

2 cups water
1/4 cup mashed banana
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup dried banana
? tablespoon baking powder

8 ounces low-fat cream cheese
3 teaspoons carob powder (we left that out)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a bowl mix together water, banana, vanilla, egg and honey.
In a separate bowl combine flour, dried banana and baking powder. Mix thoroughly.
Add wet ingredients to dry and mix well.
Pour into an 8 inch greased cake pan and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
To make frosting, beat all ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth.
Spread over the cake and decorate it with pieces of crushed dried banana. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Basic Dog Biscuit Treats
Homemade dog treats are fun to make and healthier than many of the store-bought versions.
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup corn meal
1 teaspoon iodized salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
2 large eggs mixed with a 1/4 cup beef broth beef broth
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Grease cookie sheets.
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add oil, peanut butter and egg mixture and stir to
combine. Knead the dough for 2 -3 minutes until it holds together well adding additional broth if
the dough is too stiff. Allow the dough to rest for 30 minutes.
Roll dough out to about 1/2" thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes with a knife or your
favorite cookie cutter.
Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake for approximately 30 minutes until golden
brown. Turn off the oven and allow the biscuits to dry in the over for 2 hours or overnight. Once
cooled they can be stored in zip lock bags.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine 1/2 cup dry milk and 1/2 cup wheat germ; drizzle 1 teaspoon honey on top. Add one 3 1/3 oz. jar of strained liver baby food or homemade blended liver and stir until everything is well mixed. Form the mixture into balls; place them on an oiled cookie sheet and flatten them with a fork. Bake 8 to 10 minutes . Consistency should be fudgy. Store in a jar in the fridge; freeze if keeping more than a few days.

Chinese Style Dinner 2 cups of cooked brown rice 1 cup cooked ground chicken 1 cup grated carrots, zucchini, or celery Mix together, add 1 tbs. vegetable oil and top with alfalfa sprouts.

1 1/2 C dry Oats
1 C Wheat Flour
1 C Cornmeal
1 egg
1/2 C Vegetable Oil
1/2 Water
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 C cooked crispy bacon, crumbled.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Combine Oats, flour, cornmeal and salt in large bowl.
Add in egg.oil and water and mix well.
Fold in bacon bits.
Roll dough out on floured surface to about 1/2 " thick. Cut out bisquits and transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 25 mins.

Refrigerate in airtight container to store.

A great treat on a hot Summer day.
*Pupsicles* Recipe for Dogs


2 c. low salt beef or chicken broth
2/3 c. water
2 - 3 ice cube trays

Mix water with beef or chicken broth and pour into ice cube trays. Place in freezer and serve cold. For an extra treat, (optional) add a rawhide stick halfway through the freezing. Serve outside. This recipe is quick, easy, and fun, It's probably best to serve this dish outside to avoid getting water on your carpet.

1- 32 oz. Container of Vanilla Yogurt.
1 Cup of Peanut Butter

1. Put the Peanut Butter in a microwave safe dish and microwave until melted.
2. Mix the Yogurt and the melted Peanut Butter in a bowl.
3. Pour the mixture into cupcake Papers and freeze.

My girls go banana's for these...sorry for the bad pun...but it's true! LOL

Banana Pupcakes

2 cups Water
2 Bananas
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 Cups Flour
1 tbsp. Baking Powder
1 Egg
3 tbsp Honey

Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mash Bananas.
In a bowl mix all ingredients WELL. Pour into cupcake pans.

Bake 20 minutes.

It's best that they be refrigerated.

"I just made the most yummiest doggie training treats today. It smelled so good while baking, that I almost wanted to eat it (which I could have as it's all natural). It beats buying the training rollover sausage that you can buy at pet stores, as it is much cheaper and wholesome. Plus the smell is more potent to get the dog's attention."


1 lb chicken livers (drained)
1 garlic clove (can be substituted with 1 tsp. garlic powder or garlic salt)
3/4 cup canola or olive oil
4 eggs
2 cups of flour (amount may vary depending on altitude, etc)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a 9 x13 jelly roll sheet pan with parchment or wax paper. Or you can grease the sheet pan. (I found lining the entire sheet works best.)

In a food processor, puree the chicken livers and garlic until thoroughly chopped. Add eggs and oil and mix just until blended. Pour mixture into a large bowl. Add the flour a little at a time and mix with a whisk until consistency is like a brownie-mix texture (not thin and runny like gravy, nor thick and heavy like cookie dough). Adjust the amount of flour according to the consistency of the batter. Don't over mix to avoid excess air bubbles.

Pour batter into lined sheet pan and spread evenly. Tamp baking sheet down on the counter a couple of times to bring up the air bubbles. Let rest for about five minutes before placing in the oven to make sure the batter has settled.

Bake in oven for about 8-10 minutes and the sides start to crust up, and with your finger you lightly press down in the center of the "cake" and it feels firm but yet soft to the touch. Some areas may bubble up during the baking process, but when cooled, they will fall down. You can poke holes in the bubbles to air them out in the oven.

Remove dog bait from oven and let cool for 1/2 hour. Run a knife around the edges of baking sheet to loosen sides, then turn baking sheet over on counter to remove from pan. Peel wax/parchment paper off. Slice dog bait into bites the size of 1/2-inch cubes or smaller. Store them in baggies or in a Tupperware container and place them in the freezer. If you want harder biscuits, you can place the cut dog bait on a cookie sheet and put them back in a 150 F oven for a few hours to let them dry out and harden, then store them in the freezer.

I portion them in ziplock sandwich bags and store them in the freezer, so when we are going to train, I just grab a bag from the freezer and go. Shasta seems to like them frozen as well as thawed. Just remember that these treats should be refrigerated or frozen as they are perishable just like regular meat products.

Birthday Cake # 1

1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Margarine, Softened
1/2 Cup Corn Oil
1 Jar strained Beef or Liver Baby food (2.5 ounce)
4 Eggs
3 strips Dog Beef Jerky, crumbled (optional)

Use Plain Yogurt (for dogs) or Cottage Cheese (for dogs or cats) for icing.

Sift Flour and Baking Powder together; set aside.
In Large bowl, with electric mixer at medium speed, cream Margarine until smooth. Add Corn Oil, Baby Food and Eggs; mix until smooth.
At low speed, gradually beat Flour mixture into Beef Mixture until batter is smooth. Fold in Beef Jerky.

Pour batter into well-greased and floured 8"x5"x3" loaf pan. Bake in preheated 325 Degree F. oven 70 minutes. Let cool on wire rack a few minutes before removing from pan to cool completely.

Just prior to serving, ice with either the yogurt or cottage cheese and serve.

1 Pound Ground Beef, Extra Lean
8 Eggs
1 Cup Oat Meal
1/2 Cup Cracker Crumbs

Using Electric Mixer, blend all items together until completely blended. Pour into an oblong cake pan sprayed with Non-stick cooking spray.

Bake in Oven at 350 Degree's F. for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool. Carefully invert on to a plate and frost with Non-fat Sour Cream or Instant mashed potato's.

Store left overs in refrigerator.

Cheesey Biscuits
2 to 2 ? pounds

Some cheeses are tart or sweet, others are dry, and still others are moist. You can vary the taste by varying the type of cheese you use. The only requisite is that you should be able to grate the cheese.

3 ? cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup uncooked rolled oats
1 cup yellow cornmeal
? cup nonfat dry milk
1 cup wheat bran
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 large eggs
1 ? cups chicken broth, or sufficient for processing

Position the rack in the center of the oven and preheat at 400 degrees F. Lightly grease or use parchment paper to line two cookie sheets or baking trays.
In a large bowl, using a fork or wire whisk, blend the flour, oats, cornmeal, dry milk, wheat bran, and cheddar cheese.
In a small bowl, using a wire whisk or electric mixer on MEDIUM speed, beat the eggs foamy before beating in the chicken broth.
Using a large spoon, a spatula or your hand, combine the two mixes, blending until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl and forms a soft dough. If the mixture seems a little dry, add a little broth, a tablespoonful at a time.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured flat surface, and using a rolling pin, roll out to ? inch thick, Use a 1 ? inch round cookie cutter to cut out as many cookies as you can, reworking the scraps as you go. The dough will become stiff as it is reworked.
Place the cookies side by side on the prepared cookie sheets or baking trays. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the cookies appear very dry and the edges are light golden brown. Remove the trays from the oven and cool to room temperature. Turn off the oven.
When the cookies have cooled completely, put all of them on a single baking tray and return them to the cooling oven. Leave them undisturbed, without opening the oven door, for 8 to 16 hours. This drying time will remove a great deal of moisture still present in the treats. Afterward you can store the treats at room temperature in a regular paper bag or a container that isn?t airtight. The dog treats will contain little moisture, which greatly reduces the chance of mold forming.
Please note: Some dogs may be allergic to corn-based products or sensitive to dairy products.

1 1/2 cups Barley flour (found in -- health food stores and some grocery stores as well as on line from places like King Arthur Flour)
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
1 Egg yolk
1/2 cup Milk
2 tablespoons Honey

Cream the dry ingredients together with the oil. In a separate bowl, beat together the egg yolk, milk, and honey. Gradually mix into the dry ingredients. Knead into a dough. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into bear shapes (or any shape you like). Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 20 minutes. If you make a lot of them keep the rest in the refrigerator or freezer since there are no preservatives. They are actually people edible although not quite sweet enough for us! The title comes from the bear cookie cutter I originally used but any cutter or can or glass will do.

One package of frozen chicken or turkey gizzards

Place on a microwave safe pan between two layers of paper towels. Nuke in microwave on high power for approximately 10 minutes or until crunchy.

My boy Charley has a sensitive belly, and a penchant for eating things that will make him sick. When he has a tummyache, this is often the only thing he'll eat.

1 boneless, skinless chicken breast (I use skinless because that's what I usually have in the freezer, but skin-on would be fine too)
1 cup uncooked brown rice
32 oz. beef broth
1 teaspoon bacon grease (optional, if you have it)
1 can vegetables, whatever you have in the pantry

Cut the chicken breast into several large pieces, and place all ingredients except vegetables in a saucepan. Cover and cook without stirring over medium-high heat, until chicken and rice are cooked and most of the liquid has evaporated. Run through a food processor to shred the chicken. Add the vegetables and allow to cool a bit before serving.

I make a batch of this a few times a year and freeze half, so I'll have it when Charley needs it.

3 to 3 1/2 lbs of liver, beef or chicken
1 C whole wheat flour
4.25 oz jar fresh minced or crushed garlic
2 C white flour
1/2 C corn meal
1 med shaker of grated parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover cookie sheet with foil, coat with cooking spray, sprinkle lightly with corn meal and set aside. Process liver and garlic in food processor or blender until it looks like milk chocolate. Pour into large mixing bowl and blend in the rest of the ingredients. Spread evenly onto cookie sheet (the mixture will be thick) and sprinkle lightly with corn meal. Bake until no pink is left. You can bake them for about 30 min for one pan and then turn the oven off but leave the brownies inside until they are cool. Cut in pieces and be ready to be loved by your dog(s).

VERSION#1 Delicious and Nutritious

1 cup water
1 cube chicken or beef bullion
4 small pieces of chicken or beef

Dissolve bullion in water and tear meat into smaller pieces, about 1/2 inch squares. Pour liquid into ice cube trays and add meat pieces in each square. Freeze for about 12 hours or until solid.

VERSION #2 A Sweet for Your Sweetheart

1 32 ounce container of vanilla yogurt
1 cup peanut butter

Put the peanut butter in a microwave safe dish and microwave until melted. Mix the yogurt and melted peanut butter in a bowl. Pour into cupcake papers and freeze.

2 lbs ground turkey
2 eggs
2 cups uncooked oatmeal
1 carrot
1 zucchini
2 bananas

Preaheat oven to 375 degrees
In food processor or blender combine carrot, zucchini and bananas. Process to the consistency of baby food.
In mixing bowl, combine all ingredients including the fruit and veggies.
Mix well by hand.
Put in loaf pan. For an extra treat, top with honey.
Bake at 375 for 45 minutes.
Let cool and serve.
