Crystal wasn't on death row in a pound but she may as well have been with her quality of life and the prognosis for improvement.

She lived in a yard 3x4 metres in diameter, had never been walked and was starved of food because her owner spent her money elsewhere. Timd in nature due to lack of socialisation and not even knowing how to sit due to lack of training, she could have been doomed to a life of neglect or even being dumped in a pound if not for one guardian angel who contacted us for help to give her a new life. This guardian angel sponsored all her vetting and even transported her from one side of Melbourne to the other to her foster home where she was nurtured, trained and rehabilitated.

This is where her true nature began to show itself and this is what she has continued to exhibit in her adoptive home. Her family lives on property and they have alpacas among other animals and sadly a few weeks ago a mother alpaca deserted her newborn baby and so the family brought her inside the home to hand raise her. "Penny" could not walk and keep up as her legs buckled underneath her and she was very dehydrated so needed lots of fluids and support. When she first came into the house Crystal was fascinated, but had to be kept away initially because of her enthusiasm but at the second feeding on our adopter's lap Crystal was allowed to come close and meet Penny and immediately Crystal started cleaning her up and looking after her with extraordinary gentleness, allowing Crystal to demonstrate her mothering abilities and her ability to adjust her behaviour around Penny so as to be as gentle as the situation demanded. Penny unfortunately failed to thrive and died 3 days later, possibly from whatever caused her mother to abandon her, but during her time on this earth she accepted Crystal's dedicated care without flinching, much to our adopter's delight. We share with you some photos taken of Crystal and Penny and hope that for every dog out there in situations such as Crystal was has a guardian angel waiting to step in and guide them out into helping hands just as Crystal's did.

Beautiful story. What a lucky girl! And yes, that does make the efforts all worthwhile.
