View Full Version : Introducing...........Abby (Mayhem)!

11-20-2011, 08:35 PM
Our new girl that arrived home on Saturday morning at 4 am. This is Mayhem a.k.a. Abby. She's 5 months and 20 pounds. The rescue said she was an ACD. I think she may be part ASTCD. Thoughts anyone? I will try to get a stack picture sometime tomorrow.

The introduction to our GSD went well. She's already trying to heel him, and he loves chasing her. She is pretty much respecting his cues and also following his lead.

We are working on the basics right now - house training, crate training, no begging, no jumping, 'sit' and her name.

This thread would not be complete without pictures, so here it goes:

Awwwwww - cute as cute gets! She could be part stumpy.

4 a.m.? Did you drive all night to get her?

11-20-2011, 08:59 PM
Hey Tiff, there is an ASTCD group on facebook, post some of your pics there and see what they think. The lack of tan is one characteristic of them, and though its hard to tell from these pics she does look somewhat leggier than your usual ACD. What does her tail look like? I'd like to see a nice side shot of her to see her length to height ratio.

She is a cute one for sure, and glad she is fitting in so well with your other dog already.

We left home at 11:00 to meet the transport that was bringing her to us which is why it was so late. The total drive time there and back was about 4 hours and it was worth it!

I will join the facebook group!

She does have a tail, but her build is not as 'thick' as my family's previous ACDs. Here is a side shot from when she was with the rescue. I'll get a better one when it is light out.

Adorable! Congrats!

Thank you!

She just jumped onto the coffee table. Add that to the training list! LOL You've gotta have a sense of humor with these dogs!

Oh so cute!! Good luck with your newest addition!

Put her in Agility!!!

11-21-2011, 10:31 AM
I want to do agility and flyball but need to get a car first! We are definitely going to do weight pull, just need her to be older first. Our GSD just started novice pulls and while not a conventional breed for the sport, he seems to like it. Particularly the long endurance training we've been doing for it. We'll see how she feels about it next summer! In the mean time, she's coming with us to pulls to get used to the environment.

And just some of the dogs playing:

those are great play pictures! she's adorable!

11-21-2011, 02:15 PM
Boy, those little teeth are busy, aren't they??! She's gonna be a pistol!

11-21-2011, 02:37 PM
curious what camera/lens you are using for these... they are awesome pics :)

11-21-2011, 03:59 PM
She's already giving him a run for his money. When she wants a toy he has or wants him to play, she will lay down, stare at him and bark. She will not be ignored!

Thanks :) I'm using a Nikon D5000 with a 35mm f1.8 (http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-35mm-AF-S-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001S2PPT0) lens.

She just learned 'down' and 'turn' :)

awe. how adorable and just want to smooch that precious face. Congrats!

Oh boy! You are really in for it with this behavior! Ivy has her Master's Degree (going for her PhD!) in barking for what you want.:duh!: She gives my shepherd Lexi H*LL constantly. Enjoy your new girl, she is beautiful and looks like she is chock full of personality!

Thanks again!

KAKZookpr - right now he's keeping up with her! When he wants to play with her and she's ignoring him, he whacks her with his paw (we're working on teaching him not to do this), so he's giving as good as he gets! He kind of deserves anything she gives him!

Curious - our rescue girlie last year looks very similar to your new Abby. Our girl has features more similar to a Stumpy - I think ?? but will not know for sure I guess. She is small, short 28 lbs built like a rock and very mighty. We were told she was a heeler - perhaps a mix with Stumpy? Is that done often? Anyway. Your Abby is a doll. Enjoy!

11-22-2011, 02:53 PM
I did not even know about Stumpies until I found this forum! But when I read this thread, http://www.aucado.us/forums/showthread.php?28268-Thinking-about-getting-an-ACD-PLEASE-READ..., it sounded like a common cross which got me thinking. Thanks for the compliments! Your girl is REALLY cute. I think Abby is going to be about the same size :)

Thanks for the link. Hadn't read - I have never really heard of the Stumpy until I saw reference on this group as well. Our girlie-girl does has a finer bone structure for sure face/muzzle/ head and body. Her fur/coat is not very thick nor is her tail thick. She is laid back while in the house but goes crazy if you use the word "jolly ball" or "outside." Like a shot - she bolts for her dog door. LOVES jolly balls VERY high energy and intensity. She has her "work-outs" 4 to 5 times a day where she kills-shakes the ball like crazy after chasing the ball - returns to me for more kick and chase. She know lots of tricks and get the paper in the front yard everyday. Would only take 3 - 5 min to teach her a new trick. Once she knows it - she knows it. Amazing to me. Love these crazy pups!

11-22-2011, 06:02 PM
Jolly balls are nice. We have a Boomer ball here that my GSD loves!

The pup learned 'touch' today. She's consistent with 'sit' now but still relying on the hand signal for 'down' and 'turn'.

She is a gorgeous pup, looking forward to pictures of her growing up.
I love Heelers that are fully blue ;)

11-23-2011, 10:16 AM
Sooo cute - makes me want to go out and get a new puppy (not a good idea!)

Here some more pictures, maybe a cure to the puppy fever?

N'awww, she's a cutie.
Looks like you and your other dog have your hands and paws full, though. Hehe.

11-28-2011, 10:22 AM
Mayhem is right! But she's the CUTEST mayhem I've ever seen!

12-03-2011, 01:00 AM
She does have a tail, but her build is not as 'thick' as my family's previous ACDs. Here is a side shot from when she was with the rescue. I'll get a better one when it is light out.

I've noticed two distinct body types. There is the "tank" like my Dingo, and the longer, lankier type like Mayhem.

12-03-2011, 09:47 AM
She appears to be almost stumpy type in her build but with a tail. Cute little heathen etiher way :)

12-03-2011, 01:08 PM
she's adorable!!! but this sure has me thinking - my lucy definitely has the longer body, nose and slimmer head....part stumpy with tail... I like that. :) there are other dogs on here too that look like her

12-06-2011, 07:45 PM
Still haven't been able to get any of her standing. Grrrr. But I did get these - the only time she is still!
