We are over-run with wild hogs! There is an open season on them- lots are being shot, but no one (human ) will eat one. I've never tried it, but have been told that they do NOT taste like the pork we raise for food. But, my question is- why can't this meat be fed to our dogs? Everyone tells me not to use the meat, but most dogs I know eat deer meat. No one can explain why not to feed this free food- I keep hearing "I've heard tell, not to feed wild pork to anything" but I want to know why? Coyotes will eat it, if you leave it laying there. Why can't dogs eat wild pork? Seems to me lots of free meat being wasted.

This is probably the reason:

I was under the assumption that dogs don't digest pork very easily...I don't know if wild pork would be any different though...

Trichinosis was my first thought too.

Cooking the meat should prevent any problems. My dogs eat rabbits with no problem, although Opie ate a cow patty yesterday morning and was sick all day:s4:YUCK:puke:
Guess I'll quit looking for free food- not worth the risk! While I was cleaning up after Opie, Penny got her paw stuck on a sticky trap! Can't catch the darn mouse, but I caught Penny:roll1:
